This wikiHow teaches you how to send a video to someone on Discord using a phone, tablet, or computer. No matter which platform you're using, you can share videos up to 8MB large in a chat channel or direct message. If you want to be able to send larger videos (up to 50MB), you can subscribe to Discord Nitro to increase your file sending limits, or consider uploading your video to another site, such as Google Drive or Dropbox, and then simply sharing a link to your video from a cloud service like Google Drive or Dropbox.
-
1
Open Discord. You'll find this on your Start Menu or in your Applications folder.
-
2
Click the chat in which you want to share the video. This can be either a chat in a server or a private chat.
- To send a video in a direct message, click the blue Discord game controller icon at the top-left, and then select the conversation with the person you want to message.
- To join a channel, click the icon for the server on which the channel resides in the left panel, and then click the channel name.
-
3
Click the plus icon (+). It's to the left of the typing area at the bottom.[1] Your file browser will open.
-
4
Navigate to and double-click your video. As long as the video is 8MB or less, you'll now have the option to type an optional comment and/or mark the video as a spoiler.
- If the video is too large to send, you'll see an error that says so. If you subscribe to Discord Nitro, you can send videos up to 50MB.[2] If you don't want Nitro, you can upload the video somewhere else (like Dropbox) and share it as a link, or just send it through an app other than Discord.
-
5
Add a comment and click Upload . You can also mark the video as a spoiler if you need to. This uploads the file to the conversation.
-
1
Open the Discord app on your phone or tablet. It's the purple icon with a white game controller inside.
-
2
Tap the chat or channel in which you want to send a video. You can upload a video to a channel or send it to someone in a direct message.
- To send someone a direct message, tap the icon of two overlapping people at the top-right, tap the person's name, and then tap Message.
- To enter a chat channel, tap the three horizontal lines at the top-left, tap the server on which the channel resides, and then tap the channel in the channel list.
-
3
Tap the image icon. It's on the left side of the typing area.
- If it's your first time sending a photo or video, you may be asked if you want to give Discord access to your photos. You'll need to give full access if you want to send videos.
-
4
Tap the image icon again (Android only). If you're using an Android, you should see a set of icons representing different types of files you can send.[3] Tap the image icon again so Discord knows to look at your phone or tablet's gallery.
- If the file is not in your gallery, return here and tap the icon that looks like a sheet of paper. This is the Files icon, and allows you to select files (including videos) to attach from other locations on your Android.
-
5
Tap the video you want to send. A preview will appear.
- If the video is too large to send, you'll see an error that says so. If you subscribe to Discord Nitro, you can send videos up to 50MB. If you don't want Nitro, you can upload the video somewhere else (like Dropbox) and share it as a link, or just send it through an app other than Discord.
- If you're using an Android and are unable to select a video, open your Gallery app instead, select the video, tap the Sharing icon (a sideways V with three dots), and then select Discord. At that point, you can choose a channel or DM to send the video to.
-
6
Tap the Send button. It's the blue circle with a white paper airplane inside. This sends the video to the selected user or channel.

Question
What are some other good video file hosts that I can use?
Google Drive is free, and you can upload videos from your phone or computer directly to the app, then get a link that you can share with others.
-
Question
Can have a video (YouTube videos) play in the call so we could all see it?
Yes, you can. One of you will need to be using Discord on a computer so you can use the screen share feature. When everyone is in a call, anyone using Discord from a computer will have the option to "go live", which will let them share their screen. Then, the person who's sharing can open YouTube and play the video. You'll be able to see their screen until they stop the share.
-
Question
Is there a way to not upload it YouTube or any other video hosting site?
In order to send larger or longer videos, you'll need to either use another application or pay for Discord Nitro.
-
Question
Double question. First question: how do we do this for someone else's video? Second one, can we do this on mobile?
If you want to share someone else's video, have them get you the link to their video. Then, you can copy and paste their link and send it to whoever you need to. To answer your second question, yes, you can do this on mobile.
-
Question
When I send a video, it won't let me view it, I have to download it to view it. What do I do?
It may be because the video file is extremely large, or that your video isn't in the right format and Discord doesn't recognize it. Make sure your video is in an mp4 format -- there are plenty of sites that you can use to convert it if it's not -- then try again.
-
Question
I took a snippet from an anime, will I get in trouble for copyright? I tried uploading it to YouTube and got denied.
If you post it to YouTube, it could get denied because of copyright issues. However, if you upload it to your Google Drive account, you won't have to worry about your video being taken down.

If the video you want to share is too large for Discord, you can upload it to a site like Google Drive, Dropbox, or iCloud Drive. All of these sites allow you to share a link to the uploaded file anywhere you wish, including within a Discord channel or private message. Although you won't actually be sending the video through Discord, this can be a useful alternative.
-
You can also upload a video to YouTube or another streaming video site and share the link in a chat or channel. YouTube actually allows you to share up to 15 minutes of video without being verified. To upload longer videos, you only need to verify your account.[4]
-
Discord's built-in player can play videos in the MP4, MOV, and WEBM formats. If the video is in a different format, the recipient may need to open it in a different app.
